Ibn Sa’idi Maliki says: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me as the collector of charity. When I finished this task and handed over the entire account to him, he ordered that I be given wages for this service. But I said: I did this work for Allah Almighty and my reward is with Allah Almighty. However, he said: Take what is being given to you, because I also did a similar task during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when he gave me wages for this work and I said the same thing as you, he said to me: Whatever comes to you without you asking for it, take it, and eat from it yourself and also give charity from it.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood from this that those people who are sent to collect charity (sadaqah) and zakat, they can be given a salary from this wealth. Some people harshly criticize the representatives (safirs) of mosques and madrasahs on the basis that they take a portion of this fund as salary, whereas according to the explicit texts of the Qur’an and Hadith, this form of sustenance is permissible (halal) for them.
