Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed something. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Those whom you have given, there are others who were more deserving than them. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These people have given me the choice that either they will demand from me in an improper manner or they will call me miserly, whereas I am not miserly.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of this blessed hadith is that these people were not actually more deserving than others, but if you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had not given to them, they would have spoken in an inappropriate manner and insisted on making demands from you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). And if even then you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had not given to them, they would have called you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stingy. It is thus understood that with ignorant and harsh-natured people, one should deal gently and with kindness, and their hearts should be reconciled, because there is greater benefit in this. In any case, in such matters, the ruler of the time has the authority to adopt any method of distribution, keeping in view the greater interests of Islam, but the condition is that his intention must be clear and praiseworthy in the sight of Islam. In the present era, the ruling class has strayed far from the path of justice and fairness in this matter.
The meaning is that I am not stingy, and I also do not like that people should ask me insistently, and upon not receiving, resort to harsh words and foul speech. Therefore, even though they are not greatly deserving, I give them wealth. (Bulugh al-Ma'ani). (Abdullah Rafiq)
