Hadith 3442

The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) also said: Whoever is deprived of gentleness is deprived of (all) goodness.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Some Bedouins came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Prophet of Allah! Your representatives for zakat (in the matter of collecting zakat) act unjustly towards us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should please them. They said: Even if they act unjustly? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Just please them. Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Since I heard this hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the zakat representative has always left me pleased.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Abu Dawood, these words are also present: "((Ardhu musaddiqakum wa in zulimtum.))" (Please your charity collector, even if you are being wronged.) What is the meaning of this hadith—that if the zakat (obligatory charity) collector is wronging the owner of the wealth, should he still remain silent and pay an extra amount? In response, it is submitted that at most, two interpretations of this statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are possible:

(1) In reality, during the Prophetic era, the zakat collectors would collect the full prescribed amount of zakat. Some people would perceive this amount as excessive and would describe it as oppression; therefore, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said that even if you think you are being wronged, the subjects should fulfill the wishes of the collectors.

(2) In fact, "oppression" here does mean actual oppression, but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam advised that in such matters, the subjects should consider the amount and standard set by the official zakat collector, should not argue with them, but rather deal with them gently and entrust the matter to Allah Ta'ala. The ahadith mentioned in the previous chapter support the second interpretation.
