Hadith 3339

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Do not make my grave an idol. May Allah curse those people who made the graves of their prophets places of prostration.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: Since the Jews and Christians, in their veneration of the prophets, used to prostrate at their graves and turn towards them in prayer, thus making those graves into idols, therefore the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam supplicated to Allah that his own grave not be made into an idol. Those people who, with a specific posture and with humility and submissiveness, face the blessed grave of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid Nabawi) for the purpose of remembrance (dhikr), supplications, or sending blessings and salutations (salat and salam), should, in light of such ahadith, refrain from such actions.
