Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: A Jewish woman used to serve me. Whenever I gave her anything, she would say: May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, I said: O Messenger of Allah! Is there punishment in the grave before the Day of Resurrection? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, why are you asking this question? I said: Such-and-such Jewish woman, whenever we give her anything, she says: May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Jews lie, and they fabricate many lies against Allah, there will be no punishment before the Day of Resurrection. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained for some days, as long as Allah willed. One day, at midday, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, while he had covered himself with a cloth, and his eyes had become red, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was proclaiming in a loud voice: O people! Trials are coming upon you like pieces of a dark night. O people! If you knew what I know, you would weep much and laugh little. O people! Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave, indeed the punishment of the grave is true.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the two aforementioned hadiths, there are two incidents: the first time, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam expressed ignorance, then when knowledge was given to him, he clarified the matter. If it is said that the following two verses related to the punishment of the grave had already been revealed in Makkah Mukarramah: {یُثَبِّتُاللّٰہُالَّذِیْنَآمُنْوابِالْقَوْلِالثَّابِتِفِیالْحَیَاۃِالدُّنْیَاوَفِیالْآخِرَۃِوَیُضِلُّاللّٰہُالظَّالِمِیْنَ۔} (Surah Ibrahim: 27), meaning: "Allah keeps the believers firm with the firm word in this world and in the Hereafter, and Allah leads the wrongdoers astray." {اَلنَّارُیُعْرَضُوْنَعَلَیْھَاغُدُوًّاوَّعَشِیًّا} (Surah Ghafir: 46), meaning: "The Fire is presented to them (the people of Pharaoh) morning and evening."
