Hasan reports that Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) ’s mother passed away. He asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): My mother has died, can I give charity on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. He asked: Then which charity is best? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Providing water. He said: In Madinah, this is the waterway of the family of Sa’d. Shu’bah says: I asked Qatadah, who is the narrator who said the words “In Madinah, this is the waterway of the family of Sa’d”? He said: It is Hasan.
