Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade building structures over graves and plastering them with lime.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Tirmidhi, these words are also mentioned: ((… wa an yuktab ‘alayhi …)). That is: and he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also forbade writing on the grave. In a narration of Sunan Nasa’i as well, writing on the grave is prohibited. From this, it is established that writing on the grave is also forbidden. However, nowadays, raising graves, making them solid (with construction), writing on them, placing marble plaques on them, repeatedly repairing them, building rooms over them, sitting on graves, walking in them or even over them with shoes—these practices have become widespread. In this way, several blessed ahadith are being opposed. However, for the purpose of identifying the grave, any other sign besides writing may be placed, as is understood from the following hadith:
