Thumamah Hamdani says: We set out towards Rome with Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). There, he was the governor of Darb on behalf of Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). It so happened that one of our paternal cousins passed away. Sayyiduna Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer and remained standing at his grave until he was buried. When we began to level his pit (by throwing soil), he said: Put a little less soil, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command us to make the grave level with the ground.
