فَصْلٌ مِنْهُ فِي الْقِيَامِ لِجَنَازَةِ الْكَافِرِSection on standing for the funeral of a disbeliever
Hadith 3223

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! تَمُرُّ بِنَا جَنَازَةُ الْكَافِرِ أَفَنَقُومُ لَهَا؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ، قُومُوا لَهَا، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ تَقُومُونَ لَهَا إِنَّمَا تَقُومُونَ إِعْظَامًا لِلَّذِي يَقْبِضُ النُّفُوسَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! When the funeral of a disbeliever passes by us, should we stand up for it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! Stand up for it, for indeed you do not stand for it (the deceased), but rather you stand in reverence of the One who seizes the souls."

Benefits: … That is, the purpose of your standing is to venerate Allah Ta'ala, Who changes the life of creatures to death. From this, you should remember the greatness and might of Allah Ta'ala, and you should refrain from heedlessness and being deceived by the world.
