بَابُ مَوْقِفِ الْمُصَلَّى مِنَ الرَّجُلِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ إِذَا كَانَ إِمَامًا أَوْ مُنْفَرِدًا وَكَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ إِذَا اجْتَمَعَتْ أَنْوَاعٌ مِنَ الْجَنَائِزِChapter on the position of the one praying over the man and woman if he is Imam or alone, and what to do if there are different types of funerals
Hadith 3189

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: مَاتَ ابْنٌ لِأَبِي طَلْحَةَ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ خَلْفَ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ كَأَنَّهُمْ عُرْفُ دِيكٍ، وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the son of Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led his funeral prayer. Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) stood behind him. They appeared like the comb of a rooster. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) clarified this by gesturing with his hand.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of “the rooster’s comb” is that they were standing one behind the other, just as the raised, continuous marks appear on a rooster’s comb. This hadith of Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu is authentic based on corroborating reports; see the chapter: “Statement regarding the hope (for forgiveness) placed upon the deceased due to the abundance of those praying the funeral prayer.”
