بَابُ مَوْقِفِ الْمُصَلَّى مِنَ الرَّجُلِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ إِذَا كَانَ إِمَامًا أَوْ مُنْفَرِدًا وَكَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ إِذَا اجْتَمَعَتْ أَنْوَاعٌ مِنَ الْجَنَائِزِChapter on the position of the one praying over the man and woman if he is Imam or alone, and what to do if there are different types of funerals

عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ أُتِيَ بِجَنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ فَقَامَ عِنْدَ رَأْسِ السَّرِيرِ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِجَنَازَةِ امْرَأَةٍ، فَقَامَ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ حِذَاءَ السَّرِيرِ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ لَهُ الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ: يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ! أَهَكَذَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُومُ مِنَ الرَّجُلِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ نَحْوًا مِمَّا رَأَيْتُكَ فَعَلْتَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ فَقَالَ: احْفَظُوا
Abu Ghalib says that a man's funeral was brought to Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), so he stood at the head of the bier (i.e., the deceased). Then when a woman's funeral was brought, he stood below it, in line with the bier. When he finished the prayer, Alaa bin Ziyad said to him: O Abu Hamzah! Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also stand in the same way for the funeral of a man and a woman as I have seen you do? He said: Yes. Then Alaa bin Ziyad turned to us and said: Remember this ruling.
