بَابُ عَدَدِ تَكْبِيرِ صَلَاةِ الْجَنَازَةِ وَمَا جَاءَ فِي التَّسْلِيمِ مِنْهَاChapter on the number of Takbirs in the funeral prayer and what is reported regarding the salam in it

عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ يُكَبِّرُ عَلَى جَنَائِزِنَا أَرْبَعًا وَإِنَّهُ كَبَّرَ عَلَى جَنَازَةٍ خَمْسًا فَسَأَلُوهُ، فَقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكَبِّرُهَا أَوْ كَبَّرَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Ibn Abi Layla says: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say four takbirs in our funeral prayers. In one funeral, he said five takbirs. When people asked about this, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say takbirs in this manner.
