It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the funeral prayer for Najashi.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … These ahadith are a strong proof for the permissibility of performing the funeral prayer in absentia (Salat al-Janazah al-gha'ib). To interpret this hadith in any other way, apart from this issue, without evidence, is baseless. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir radi Allahu anhu, who says: "The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed the funeral prayer over the martyrs of Uhud eight years after (their martyrdom), as if bidding farewell to the living and the dead.
