عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: نَعَى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّجَاشِيَّ فِي الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَفَّ أَصْحَابَهُ وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعًا
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that on the day Najashi passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us of his death on that very day. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proceeded towards the place of funeral prayer or the Eid ground and led his funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged the rows of the Companions and pronounced four takbirs over him.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This was a miracle of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that he came to know of the death that occurred in Abyssinia on the very same day. The title of the king of Abyssinia was "Najashi." Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah said: The apparent matter is that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam went towards the funeral ground or the Eid ground to perform the funeral prayer (salat al-janazah) for Najashi so that a large number of Muslims would gather, and so that it would become well-known that he had died upon Islam, because some people were not even aware that he was a Muslim.
