Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is understood that the noble Companions (Sahabah) performed the funeral prayer (salat al-janazah) of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in different groups. It is possible that each group performed the funeral prayer in congregation, or separately, both possibilities exist. Similarly, the reason for performing the funeral prayer of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this manner appears to be that the Companions did not wish to take the body of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam out of the chamber of Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha. The narrations regarding the funeral prayer of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam (Sunan Ibn Majah: 1628) are also reported from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu, and in Dala’il (Bayhaqi: 7/250) from Sayyiduna Sahl ibn Sa’d radi Allahu anhu, but those are weak. However, the account of the funeral prayer is correct based on corroborating evidences.
