Hadith 3128

عَنْ جَابِرِ (بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِذَا أَجْمَرْتُمْ الْمَيِّتَ، فَأَجْمِرُوهُ ثَلَاثًا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When you perfume the deceased with incense, do so three times.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If aloeswood (oud) is not available, then any good fragrance may be applied, so that the objective is fulfilled. A person in the state of ihram is exempt from this ruling; its clarification is coming in the next hadith.
