Hadith 3111

وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((مَنْ وَجَدَ سَعَةً، فَلْيُكَفِّنْ فِي ثَوْبِ حِبَرَةٍ))
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has the means should shroud (the deceased) in striped Yemeni cloth.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Among us, people have begun to consider white cloth as an absolute requirement for the shroud (kafan); they should be encouraged to act upon all the textual evidences. This hadith can have two possible scenarios: either all three sheets are striped, or (2) two sheets are white and one is striped. Shaykh al-Albani has adopted the latter opinion.
