Hadith 3109

It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to her at the time of giving ghusl to his daughter: Start washing her from the right side and from the limbs of wudu.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of this hadith is that the one performing the ritual bath (ghusl) should first stand on the right side of the deceased and, before washing this side, should first wash the ablution (wudu) limbs on this side. Then, the same procedure should be done while standing on the left side. In this way, the ritual bath (ghusl) will be completed once. As for performing ablution (wudu) for the deceased, there is no authentic and clear narration regarding this. The following hadith is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha: The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((When you have finished washing her lower part thoroughly with water and lotus leaves, then perform ablution (wudu) for her as is done for prayer, then give her the ritual bath (ghusl).))
