Hadith 3095

(وَعَنْهَا مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَتْ: لَمَّا أُصِيبَ جَعْفَرٌ أَتَانَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: ((قُومِي الْبَسِي ثَوْبَ الْحِدَادِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ اصْنَعِي مَا شِئْتِ))، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بَكَّارٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ مِثْلَهُ
(Second chain) She says: When the tragedy of Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) occurred, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said, "Get up! Wear mourning clothes for three days, after that do as you wish."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyida Asma bint Umais radi Allahu anha was, by consensus, the wife of Sayyiduna Ja’far ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu. However, in previous ahadith, the wife has been commanded to observe mourning (‘iddah) for four months and ten days, while in this hadith, only three days are mentioned. How can this contradiction be resolved? Or what is its reason? Various commentators have given different answers:
