Hadith 3076

(Second chain of narration) In this, after "then it is from Satan," there is this addition: Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sat by the edge of the grave, and Lady Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, also sat by his side and began to weep. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, showed compassion to her and began to wipe her eyes with his garment.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The reason why the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) looked with anger was that she was congratulating Sayyiduna Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) on Paradise and thus claiming knowledge of an unseen matter. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) wanted to make her understand that indeed a person may be pious, but until Allah Almighty informs about him, no definitive judgment can be made. The Companions’ concern regarding Sayyiduna Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) was because this Companion was considered a righteous and virtuous individual in the eyes of the other Companions. However, later, when the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) praised Sayyiduna Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) at the time of his daughter’s death, the Companions became reassured. The weeping of the women mentioned in the hadith was permissible, but Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu) considered it impermissible and wanted to stop it, which is why the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade him from stopping them.
