It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'oon (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, a woman said: "O Uthman bin Maz'oon! Congratulations to you for Paradise." In another narration, it is mentioned: His wife said: "O son of Maz'oon! Congratulations to you for Paradise." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at her angrily and said: "How do you know?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah! He was your horseman and companion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah! I do not know what will be done with me, even though I am the Messenger of Allah." In another narration, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know what will happen to me and what will happen to him." Upon hearing this, the people became concerned about Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'oon (may Allah be pleased with him). When the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyida Zainab or Sayyida Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with them), passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Join our righteous and pious predecessor, Uthman bin Maz'oon." Then the women began to weep, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) started hitting them with a whip, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped his hand and said: "Umar, wait." Then he said: "Weep, weep, but avoid the wailing of Satan." After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The weeping that is from the eyes and the heart is from Allah Almighty and is due to the feeling of mercy, and that which is from the hands and the tongue is from Satan."
