It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The deceased is punished because of the weeping of the living. When the mourning woman says: “Alas, my arm! Alas, my helper! Alas, the one who clothed me!” then the angels shake the deceased and say: Were you her arm? Were you her helper? Were you the one who clothed her? Usaid says: I said (in astonishment): Subhan Allah! Allah the Exalted says: {وَلَاتَزِرُوَازِرَۃٌوِّزْرَأُخْرٰی} (Surah Al-An’am: 164), meaning: No bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another. But Musa bin Abi Musa said: May you perish! I am narrating to you the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) through Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), and you say this? Which one of us has lied? By Allah! I have not lied upon Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), nor did Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) lie upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … “The deceased is punished because of the weeping of his family over him.” That is, the deceased is punished due to the crying of his family and dependents over him. Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha considered this hadith to be the result of a mistake or forgetfulness on the part of Sayyiduna Umar and his son Sayyiduna Abdullah radi Allahu anhuma, whereas the matter is not so. In reality, Sayyidah Aisha was not aware of this hadith. This very hadith has also been narrated by Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah and Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari radi Allahu anhuma; thus, these make a total of four Companions.
