Hadith 305

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We said, "O Messenger of Allah! Can we narrate from the Children of Israel?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, you may narrate from the Children of Israel, there is no harm in it, for indeed whatever you narrate from them, among them are found matters even more astonishing than that."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … These two chapters comprise hadiths with different implications: in one chapter, narrations from Bani Isra'il are prohibited, while in the other, permission is granted. The ways to reconcile and harmonize between them are as follows: Narrating reports and stories that are instructive and contain lessons is permissible, but it is among the prohibited matters to narrate those reports which pertain to legal rulings, or to narrate them in such a manner as if proof is being derived from them, or to teach them while considering the Qur'an and Hadith insufficient, or if, due to them, doubt arises regarding Islamic teachings. However, this condition is also necessary: if our Shari'ah has neither affirmed nor denied their narrations, then neither should those narrations be considered true nor false.
