حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ (يَعْنِي الشَّافِعِيَّ) عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِنَّمَا نَسَمَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ طَائِرٌ يَعْلُقُ فِي شَجَرِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَهُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى إِلَى جَسَدِهِ يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُ))
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The soul of the believer is like a bird, which eats from the trees of Paradise, until the day Allah, the Exalted, will resurrect him, and then He will return his soul to his body.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If "ya‘laqu" is read, its meaning is "to hang from a tree." However, the first meaning is more correct, because in the hadith mentioned in the benefits of this chapter, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has explained the act of sucking.
