Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) migrated and arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, whenever the time of death of any person among us approached, we would inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would arrive before the person's death and would stay by his side, continuously supplicating for his forgiveness and waiting for his passing. Sometimes, this would take quite a long time and it would become difficult for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). After that, we thought that it would be better if we did not inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) before the death. So, thereafter, it would happen that when someone among us passed away, only then would we inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to the family of the deceased, supplicate for his forgiveness, and lead the funeral prayer. After that, if he deemed it appropriate, he would stay until the burial, and if he deemed it appropriate, he would leave earlier. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: This method continued for some time, then we decided that it would be easier for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) if we brought the deceased to the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and did not make him leave his house, nor cause him the inconvenience of coming to the house of the deceased's family.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … We should also understand these realities, that nowadays the public’s devotion towards certain scholars is excessive. As a result, people prefer to have them perform supplications (ruqyah), select them to lead funeral prayers (salat al-janazah), and consider their participation essential in marriage ceremonies and other gatherings. However, in a given area, there is usually only one such scholar. Now, what is he to do and what not to do? Whom should he attend to and whom should he leave, while he also has to live his own life and manage the affairs of his wife and children? Therefore, if at times such individuals are unable to fulfill our wishes, we should adopt a gentle attitude towards them and refrain from speaking against them.

The same situation applies to scholars and preachers who deliver speeches at night. The public insists so much on scheduling them for lectures that they are compelled to agree, but later such constraints arise that they are unable to attend. In such cases, it has been observed that the public becomes furious and lashes out in opposition to the preacher. In fact, at times, they even file cases against him and demand reimbursement for their conference expenses. Such people are far from the spirit of Islam and are heedless of what rights these scholars have over them and what their own attitude towards them should be.
