(Third Chain of Transmission) Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw me sad and asked: Abu Muhammad! What is the matter? Are you displeased with the leadership of your cousin Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)? He said: No. Then he praised Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said that the reason for my distress is that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that I know a word, that if a person recites that word at the time of death, Allah Almighty removes his pain and his complexion becomes radiant, ... . Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The lineage of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Sayyiduna Talhah radi Allahu anhuma meets at their third ancestor, ‘Amr ibn Ka‘b, therefore they were considered paternal cousins to each other. From the anxiety of Sayyiduna Talhah radi Allahu anhu, it can be inferred how concerned the noble Companions (Sahabah) were regarding matters of the Hereafter. In this context, the following hadith is also noteworthy. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Increase in bearing witness that there is no deity except Allah before there comes between you and it a barrier, and prompt your dying ones to say it.” (Musnad Abu Ya‘la: 11/8/6147, al-Kamil by Ibn ‘Adi: 204/2, and the hadith is also in Sahih Muslim and others with the wording: ‘And prompt your dying ones to say la ilaha illallah.’) That is: “Continue to bear witness in abundance to the oneness of Allah, the only true deity, before any barrier comes between you and it, and prompt those near death to say it.”
