Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was ill and I was saying: O Allah! If my time of death has come, then grant me relief (by death); if death is delayed, then raise me up; and if this is my trial, then grant me patience. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What did you say? When I repeated my words, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck me with his foot and said: What did you say? I repeated my words again. This time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Grant him well-being. Or he said: O Allah! Grant him healing. In one narration, without any doubt, only these words are mentioned: O Allah! Grant him healing. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that, I never complained of that pain again.

Brief Explanation
Benefit: … It is understood that it is prohibited to supplicate for death out of distress from any illness or hardship. If a person, out of discomfort, makes such a supplication, then he should be advised, and one should pray for his health and recovery.
