Hadith 2983

عَنْ عُمَرَ الْجُمَعِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ))، فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ: مَا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ؟ قَالَ: ((يَهْدِيهِ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى الْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ ثُمَّ يَقْبِضُهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ))
It is narrated from Umar Jami’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah Almighty intends good for His servant, He uses him. A man from the people asked: What does it mean that He uses him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty grants him the ability to do good deeds before death, then causes him to die in that state.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … People, being pleased, bear good testimony about him, and Allah Ta'ala accepts their testimony. From these ahadith, elderly people should develop concern; most people at this age are free, having no work or occupation. If these moments are spent in the remembrance (dhikr) of Allah Ta'ala and other virtuous deeds, then one can become among those described in these ahadith. But the reality is that there is a scarcity of white-haired people in the mosques; now these people too have begun to prefer gatherings of hookah, cards, idle talk, and other assemblies and councils.
