Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer of fear at the place of Dhat al-Riqa’ in the valley of Nakhl. He (peace and blessings be upon him) divided the people into two groups. One group formed a row behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the other group stood facing the enemy. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir for prayer, and those standing with him also said Allahu Akbar. He (peace and blessings be upon him) and these worshippers performed the bowing (ruku’) and one prostration (sajdah) together. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head, and the people also raised their heads. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down, and they performed the second prostration by themselves. Then they stood up and began to move backward until they stood behind the others. Now the second group came, and they formed a row behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said Allahu Akbar, and performed the bowing by themselves. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the second prostration, and these people also performed the prostration with him (peace and blessings be upon him). After the prostration, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for his second rak’ah, and these people performed the second prostration by themselves. After this, both groups stood behind him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the bowing, all performed the bowing. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prostrations, all the people performed the prostrations. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) rose from the prostrations, all the people rose from the prostrations. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed all these actions very quickly. He (peace and blessings be upon him) made as much reduction (in the prayer) as was possible. Then when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said the salam, all the people said the salam with him. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, all the people had attained the honor of participating in the prayer with him (peace and blessings be upon him).
