Hadith 2933

(Third Chain of Transmission) Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: On the day of Jumu’ah, a man called out to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon to the people in Madinah Munawwarah, and said: O Messenger of Allah! The rain has stopped, the earth is devoid of vegetation, and the people are suffering from famine, so please supplicate to your Lord for rain for us. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards the sky; we did not see many clouds. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated, and the clouds began to gather and increase, then it started to rain. The streams of Madinah began to flow, and its paths became like rivers. The rain continued in this manner until the next Jumu’ah and did not stop. (On the next Jumu’ah) the same man or another stood up while the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, and he said: O Messenger of Allah! Supplicate to Allah to withhold the rain from us. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and supplicated: O Allah! (Let it rain) around us, not upon us. As soon as he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated to his Lord, the clouds parted and moved to the right and left of Madinah and began to rain around Madinah, while no rain was falling in Madinah itself.
