Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the sun was eclipsed. He stood up and, dragging his garment, hurriedly reached the mosque, and people also began to gather continuously. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in two rak‘ahs of prayer, and the eclipse of the sun ended. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us and said: Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah; He frightens His servants through them. They do not lose their light because of anyone’s death. On that day, in fact, the son (Ibrahim, may Allah be pleased with him) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had passed away. So when you see something of this kind among these, then pray and supplicate until that which you are afflicted with is over.
