Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go out on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, lead the people in two units of Eid prayer, then move forward and turn towards the people while they were sitting, and then say: "Give charity, give charity, give charity." Among the people, women would give the most charity in the form of their earrings, rings, and other items. Then, if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) needed to send out an army, he would mention it, and if there was no such need, he would return.
