It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would not go (towards the Eid ground) on the day of Eid al-Fitr except after eating dates. Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, himself would eat three dates before going out; if he intended to eat more, he would eat five, and if he intended even more than that, he would eat an odd number.
