Sayyiduna Nabeesha Hudhali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: When a Muslim man performs ghusl on the day of Jumu’ah, then comes to the mosque and does not cause harm to anyone, if he sees that the Imam has not arrived, he continues to pray as long as he deems appropriate, and if he sees that the Imam has arrived, he sits down, listens attentively, and remains silent until the Imam finishes the Jumu’ah and the sermon. If by this action all his sins up to this Jumu’ah are not forgiven, then (I hope) it will be an expiation for the sins committed between this and the previous Jumu’ah.
