Hadith 2643

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: رَأَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ تَأَخُّرًا، فَقَالَ: تَقَدَّمُوا فَأْتَمُّوا بِي، وَلْيُؤْتَمَّ بِكُمْ مَنْ بَعْدَكُمْ، لَا يَزَالُ قَوْمٌ يَتَأَخَّرُونَ حَتَّى يُؤَخِّرَهُمُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw unnecessary delay among his companions and said: Move forward and follow me, and those behind you should follow you. (Be aware that) people keep falling behind, until Allah will put them behind on the Day of Resurrection.

Benefits: … What is meant by this “delay”? Consider the following narration: Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha reports that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “A people will continue to hold back from the first row, until Allah will hold them back in the Fire.” (Abu Dawud: 679)
