It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when three people passed by. One of them turned towards the gathering, saw an empty spot, and sat there. The second sat behind the people, and the third went away. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Shall I not inform you about these three people?” The companions said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The one who came forward and sat down, he sought a place and Allah granted him a place. The one who sat behind you, he felt shy and Allah was shy with him. And the one who went away, he turned away and Allah turned away from him.”

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … These were a total of three individuals, each with a different approach, and in response, Allah Ta’ala’s treatment with each was also different. One acted with eagerness and moved towards the empty space in the gathering to come closer to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam; this servant was valued more by Allah Ta’ala, and He granted him a place in His mercy and pleasure. In this way, it is necessary, when moving forward, not to step over people’s necks. The second man initially intended to leave, but then felt shy and came and sat down; Allah Ta’ala treated him accordingly, that is, out of shyness for him, He dealt with him mercifully. The words of Mustadrak Hakim are: وَمَضَیالثَّانِیْقَلِیْـلًاثُمَّجَائَفَجَلَسَ … and the second walked a little to leave, but then came and sat down. The third man left without any regard for the gathering; Allah Ta’ala also turned away from him and became displeased with him. In this blessed hadith, there is a warning for those who try to stay away from gatherings and lessons that contain Shari’ah knowledge. When, after prayer in the mosque, the lesson of Qur’an and hadith begins, people start standing up as if some punishment is about to descend; the matter of Friday sermons and prayers is another issue altogether.
