Hadith 246

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The superiority of the learned person over the devout worshipper is like that of the moon over the rest of the stars. Indeed, the people of knowledge are the heirs of the noble Prophets; they did not leave behind dirhams and dinars as inheritance, rather they left knowledge. So whoever acquires knowledge has taken a full share from the Prophetic inheritance.”

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The knowledge of the Qur’an and Hadith is the inheritance of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. How fortunate are those people who acquire a large share from this inheritance. However, at this point, I must certainly make this request: that people of knowledge should reform themselves, cultivate humility and modesty within themselves, become independent of people’s wealth, and spend their days and nights with patience. We are not superior to the Companions of the Suffah that the doors of abundant sustenance should be opened for us immediately, and whatever the knowledge demands from their existence, they fulfilled it. True honor and permanence lie only in this field.
