Hadith 2441

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whoever is pleased with the idea that tomorrow he meets Allah Almighty as a Muslim, then he should guard the obligatory prayers at the place where they are called for, because these are among the ways of guidance, and indeed Allah has prescribed ways of guidance for His Prophet. Each one of you should have a mosque in his house, and if you start praying in your houses, as this one who stays behind prays in his house, then you will have abandoned the Sunnah of your Prophet, and if you abandon the Sunnah of your Prophet, you will go astray. I have seen that only he would stay behind from the prayer whose hypocrisy was evident, and I have seen that a man would be brought (to the mosque) supported by two men, until he was made to stand in the row. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever performs ablution and performs it well, then comes to the mosque, for every step he takes, one rank is raised for him, or one sin is erased, and one good deed is written for him. (Our situation was such that when we would come to the mosque) we would take short steps (so that due to the abundance of steps, the rewards would increase), and indeed the prayer performed in congregation is twenty-five times more virtuous than the prayer performed alone.
