Hadith 235

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would send any of his companions for a task, he would say: “(When inviting people to Islam) give glad tidings and do not make them averse, and make things easy and do not create difficulties (in the religion).”

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … A caller (da‘i) should be characterized by wisdom and understanding, and should be such a rabbani (divinely guided person) who, by understanding the temperaments of people, gradually nurtures them and leads them towards elevation. The Shari‘ah has not established any fixed principle or rule for giving glad tidings, creating ease, not causing aversion, and not creating difficulties; all these matters depend on the understanding of the preacher (muballigh). Every individual’s temperament is different from another’s; in what manner a person should be explained something, and which person is sensitive to which matter—all these things must be taken into consideration. In this regard, it is extremely important that the people of a mosque or institution should not be divided into different factions; otherwise, such discord will arise that will drive away reform.
