It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform nine units (rak‘ahs) of prayer, and after the eighth unit, he would sit and praise Allah Almighty, mention Him, and supplicate to Him. Then he would stand up without saying salam, thus performing the ninth unit, and then sit again and praise Allah Almighty, mention Him, and supplicate to Him, and then he would say salam in such a way that we could hear it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit and perform two units (rak‘ahs) of prayer.
