Hadith 2194

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs at a time during the night, and in the last part of the night he would perform one rak'ah of Witr. Then he would stand (to perform the two Sunnah rak'ahs of Fajr), and (he would perform them so quickly) as if the call to prayer (adhan) or the iqamah was being recited in his ear.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Sahih Muslim, the final words are: "wa yusalli rak‘atayni qabla al-ghadāh ka’anna al-adhāna bi-udhunayh" (and he, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, would perform the two units (rak‘ahs) before the dawn (fajr) prayer so quickly that it seemed as if the call to prayer (adhan) was still in his ears). In light of these very words, the translation of the blessed hadith has been rendered. In the text of the hadith under study, the word "adhan" or "iqamah" appears with a doubt, and in the Sahih Muslim narration mentioned under the benefits, the word "adhan" appears without any doubt, but the commentator of Sahih Muslim has also written that what is meant by this is the iqamah. However, in another hadith, the iqamah has also been referred to as "adhan": ((bayna kulli adhānayn salāh)) (Bukhari: 632). The meaning of the hadith is that the Sunnah prayers of the morning (fajr) would be performed quickly by you, as if you were hearing the sound of the iqamah. (Abdullah Rafiq)
