Hadith 2168

Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: O people of the Qur’an! Perform Witr prayer, indeed Allah Almighty is Witr (Single/Unique) and He loves what is Witr (odd-numbered).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From the blessed ahadith, the following numbers of rak‘ahs for the Witr prayer are established: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. All five of these quantities are odd, and Allah Ta‘ala Himself is also odd (witr), even though He is only One, not three or five, but from this it should be understood how much Allah Ta‘ala loves tawhid (the oneness of Allah), such that He loves that which is odd because He Himself is odd. Subhan Allah. From this, those people should take heed who ascribe things specific to Allah Ta‘ala to the creation, for example: calling a human being ‘knower of the unseen’ (‘alim al-ghayb), making vows and offerings (nadhar wa niyaz) for a servant, seeking help from the dead, believing that the creation can hear beyond natural means (ma wara’ al-asbab), and calling upon them for this reason. Our view is that Witr is a supererogatory (nafl) prayer. We request you to study carefully all the following ahadith and the benefits mentioned under them.
