Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of one narration of this hadith is as follows: Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu said: I observed the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam closely for a month, and he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would recite Surah al-Kafirun and Surah al-Ikhlas in the two sunnah units before Fajr. (Musnad Ahmad: 5691)
Benefits: … Among us, it has become the habit of both the elite and the common people that in every unit (rak‘ah) of every prayer, after Surah al-Fatihah, they begin reciting Surah al-Ikhlas without any thought. Bear in mind that as long as a person does not adhere to reciting different surahs or supplications in prayer according to the ahadith, perhaps he remains deprived of humility and submissiveness (khushu‘ and khudu‘) during prayer; if only he would become aware of this matter. In those prayers and specific units in which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam recited certain short surahs with specification, we too should be diligent in following this. Moreover, until one introduces variety in the recitation after Surah al-Fatihah, the worshipper remains deprived of the true delight of prayer.
