Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform four rak‘ahs before ‘Asr, and between every two rak‘ahs, he would separate them by offering salutations of peace upon the close angels, the prophets, and the Muslims and believers who follow them. That is, after every two rak‘ahs, he would say salam.
