Brief Explanation
Benefits: … "Do not make your homes graves." This has two meanings: (1) Do not become like the dead, who cannot perform prayer in their graves. (2) Whoever does not perform voluntary (nafl) prayers in his home has made himself like a corpse and his home like a grave.
The apparent meaning of these words has also been taken: do not bury the deceased in your homes, and thus do not make them into graveyards. Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has mentioned this meaning in Fath al-Bari (vol. 1, p. 529) and stated that the apparent meaning of the hadith's words is indeed this, especially when the first words of this hadith ((I'J'ALU FI BUYUTIKUM MIN SALATIKUM)) are understood separately from the second sentence.
