Hadith 1988

Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Satan has come between me and my prayer and my recitation. You said: This is Satan, he is called Khanzab. When you feel him, seek refuge with Allah from him and spit three times to your left. He said: So I did this, and Allah Almighty removed this whispering from me.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Certainly, at this time, a large number of those performing prayer are heedless of the true essence of prayer and are afflicted with various kinds of whisperings (waswasah). However, when the method mentioned in this hadith is explained to someone, due to heedlessness or shyness in front of others, it is not acted upon. Respected readers! You will bear witness that you have very rarely seen any worshipper who seeks refuge from Satan in this manner during prayer, even though it is certain that at this time, a large number of those performing prayer are heedless of the true essence of prayer and are afflicted with various kinds of whisperings (waswasah). Despite this, this Prophetic method is not employed. There are several reasons for this, such as: heedlessness, lack of interest in religion, deficiency in concern for the Hereafter, shyness before people, haste, unfamiliarity with the standards of worship, not understanding the words of the prayer, etc.
