Hadith 1941

وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِبِلَالٍ: كَيْفَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ حِينَ كَانُوا يُسَلِّمُونَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ؟ قَالَ: كَانَ يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I asked Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that when people used to send salutations upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during prayer, how did you reply? He said: He used to gesture with his hand.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … According to the narration of Abu Dawud, the manner of gesturing with the hand was as follows: to spread the hand in such a way that the back of the palm was facing upwards and the inner part was facing downwards. In this hadith, the people referred to are the people of Quba, because in some narrations this clarification is present that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to go to Quba, and the people there would come and greet him with salam while he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was engaged in prayer, so he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would respond by gesturing.
