Brief Explanation
Benefits: … What is "sadl"? Four definitions are recorded:
(1) Placing the middle of a sheet or scarf, etc., on the head and letting both ends hang down on the right and left sides without placing them on the shoulders; this is the opinion of most scholars.
(2) A person letting the garment hang in such a way that both ends are hanging in front and are not wrapped; if they are wrapped, then it will not be considered sadl.
(3) Letting the garment hang so much that it begins to touch the ground, and this is a sign of arrogance.
(4) Wrapping the garment around all four sides of the body and keeping the hands inside it, and remaining in this state even during bowing (ruku) and prostration (sujud), as the Jews used to do.
If all these forms are considered as sadl and are avoided in prayer, then this action will be more cautious and stronger. Many people have been seen who, after covering their heads with a scarf, perform prayer while both ends of the scarf are hanging in front of them; these people, according to the second definition, are practicing sadl.
