Hadith 1926

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you becomes drowsy during prayer, he should leave the prayer and go to sleep until he understands what he is saying.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these ahadith in which we are prohibited from certain matters during prayer, we should at least be able to discern what Allah Ta’ala’s purpose is in commanding us to perform prayer. Does it not appear that the objective is as if the servant passes from one realm into another, such that he is left with no concern or need even for his own existence? Whereas our condition is such that we are neither hungry nor in need of relieving ourselves, yet even so, our soul does not feel the awareness of standing in the presence of Allah Ta’ala. And whether you admit it or not, when we finish the prayer, instead of feeling freshness, happiness, and an increasing sweetness of faith, we feel mental fatigue. The reason for this is that our mind, instead of turning towards Allah Ta’ala, remains occupied in pondering over various matters.
