Hadith 1917

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you raises his head in prayer, does he not fear that perhaps his eyesight may not return to him?

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The place for the gaze in prayer is specified, and one should be mindful of this. From these ahadith, it is understood that there is a prohibition against raising the gaze towards the sky during prayer. However, this does not mean that doing so outside of prayer is not permissible.
